What is LVS?

Students may take courses in foreign languages, Computer Science, Game Design, history, algebra and English are offered online through the Louisiana Virtual School.

The Louisiana Virtual School (LVS) is an online program offered to high school students through a partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education and the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. The online school uses Internet, e-mail and other online resources to offer students a rich course of study in a variety of subjects.

Students may check with their guidance counselors and enroll in LVS through their high school. Each school that participates in LVS must have an agreement on file and a School Site Facilitator who will oversee the registration process for students.

Students who wish to enroll in online course don't have to own a computer at home. However, access to a computer outside of school would offer students additional study time. While owning a computer is not mandatory, students must have access to a computer (at school, home, or a public library) with 400 MHz or faster Processor (faster recommended); Windows XP SP3 or higher; Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor; a CD/DVD-ROM drive; USB port; high-speed Internet access; sound card, speakers, headphones, and a microphone; and an Internet web browser, such as Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox 3.5 or higher.

Credit for all courses taken through LVS is granted through the student's high school. A mid-term progress report and final letter grade is issued by the instructor and sent to the student's home school through the Department. The local school then handles all credits according to local policy.
