Special School District
Who We Are

Special School District (SSD) was established by the Louisiana State Legislature to provide education to students housed in state facilities and hospitals. SSD, under the direction of the Department of Education and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) oversees the educational programs for eligible students enrolled at Office of Youth Development (OYD), Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office of Developmental Disabilities (ODD), Department of Public Safety and Corrections (OPSC) facilities and the Board Special Schools (BSS).

SSD Central Office has been relocated to 2888 Brightside Lane, Building F, on the campus of the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge.
