Substitute Teachers and Substitute Paraprofessionals

Special School District (SSD) is an intermediate educational unit administered by the LDOE that provides education, special education and related services to students in state-operated facilities. SSD is seeking to employ substitute teachers and paraprofessionals at facilities throughout the state.
Minimum requirements are 21 years of age; possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent; and a demonstration of a minimum of a 10th grade proficiency in reading and mathematics on a standardized achievement test (an Associate or Baccalaureate degree will be accepted in lieu of educational testing).
SSD operates on a 12 month school calendar. Substitute employment is anticipated on a day-by-day basis as well as for specific durations of time deemed necessary. Please note the Substitute Employee Pay Schedule below:
Day-by-Day Substitute Employees are intermittent employees periodically employed on an as needed basis.
Day-by-Day Substitute employees are compensated on an hourly basis as follows:
- Para educator: $10.00 / hour - $70.00 / day
- Teacher-High School Diploma: $11.00 / hour - $77.00 / day
- Teacher-College Degree: $12.00 / hour - $84.00 / day
- Teacher-Certificated: $13.00 / hour - $91.00 / day
The following rates may apply after ten (10) continuous days of employment beginning on the eleventh (11th) day.
Should there be a break in service, the ten (10) consecutive days of employment must be repeated at the lower rate of pay. Holidays or other school closures will not count as breaks in service.
- Teacher-College Degree: $14.29 / hour - $100.00 / day
- Teacher-Provisionally Certified: $17.86 / hour - $125.00 / day
- Teacher-Certified: $21.43 / hour - $150.00 / day
