Special School District

Special School District (SSD) was established by the Louisiana State Legislature to provide education to students housed in state facilities and hospitals. SSD, under the direction of the Department of Education and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) oversees the educational programs for eligible students enrolled at Office of Youth Development (OYD), Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office of Developmental Disabilities (ODD), Department of Public Safety and Corrections (OPSC) facilities and the Board Special Schools (BSS).

SSD Central Office is located on the ground floor of the Claiborne Building in Baton Rouge. Feel free to contact the Central Office in connection with services offered at any of the facilities.
