Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA)
Child Welfare and Attendance focuses on compulsory attendance; discipline of students (including suspensions and expulsions); the duties of principals, teachers, and other school personnel in complying with regulations and policies; and the responsibilities of students and their parents or guardians in complying with regulations and policies. Louisiana law provides that the Departmentof Education and each local education agency (LEA) have the responsibility of assuming leadership roles in initiating, maintaining, and supervising programs that affect child welfare and attendance.
