Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA)

Louisiana statutes provide that the State Department of Education and each local school board shall have the responsibility of assuming the leadership role in initiating, maintaining and supervising programs which affect child welfare and attendance. These statutes deal generally and specifically with compulsory attendance, discipline of students (including suspensions and expulsions), and the duties of principals, teachers and other school personnel to comply with the provisions of the programs for child welfare; and the responsibilities of children and their parents or tutors in complying with these laws.
