Daily Oral Test Strategies (DOTS)
Daily Oral Test Strategies (DOTS) consist of twenty mini lessons at both the 4th grade and 8th grade levels. The purposes of the lessons are to encourage test thinking, practice test-taking strategies, and discuss the test-taking process.
The lessons are scripted to assist teachers, paraprofessionals, and volunteers in focusing on the key element(s) of each lesson. DOTS uses the released LEAP test items from all four content areas to develop skills and strategies for thinking.
Each lesson is approximately 5 to 10 minutes in length. These lessons do not require paper or pencil, a reading passage, charts, graphs, or drawings to look at; they do not have multiple choice answers, or spaces to write constructed-response answers. Students respond to problems with personalized statements, such as "In order to solve this problem, I had to…, I need to remember…, I figured this out by…, or First, I should…”
The lessons should be completed in order.
