Become a Candidate Support Provider

After becoming an NBCT, becoming a candidate support provider (CSP) is an excellent way to share expertise with current candidates, while continuing to grow as an educator.

Candidates often report that sound candidate support helped tremendously in pursuit of National Board Certification. Support providers help candidates better analyze and reflect on their practice as it relates to the NBPTS Standards.

CSP responsibilities include but are not limited to:
a. Serve as a mentor to assigned candidates;
b. Maintain a mentor log of all work with candidates;
c. Present a minimum of one session at a support meeting;
d. Attend a minimum of 6 of 8 support meetings;
e. Notify Lead Mentor of changes in meeting arrangements;
f. Serve as a liaison for the district NBC contact person, candidates, and LDE;
g. Monitor candidate attendance at assigned sessions;
h. Mentor two – five candidates a year;
i. Read portfolio entries and providing guidance about NBPTS instructions and requirements;
j. Attend mentor training in the summer;
k. Facilitate recruitment meetings;
l. Serve on selection committee; and
m. Uphold the ethics policy of NBPTS as well as the NBPTS "Guidelines for Ethical Candidate Support.”
