Federal Programs
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) is committed to making significant changes in the major Federal programs that support school efforts to educate our students. NCLB is based on the following principles:
1. Increased flexibility and local control
2. Stronger accountability for results
3. Expanded options for parents
4. Emphasis on effective teaching methods based on proven, scientifically based professional development strategies that have been shown to increase student achievement
(Improving Teacher Quality State Grants, Title II, Part A Non-Regulatory Draft Guidance, October 5, 2006)
The Louisiana Department of Education is also committed to improving student achievement in Louisiana. To meet this goal, the Technical Assistance and Administration Section in the Division of Professional Development is responsible for the administration and statewide implementation of two programs under NCLB. These programs are: Title II, Part A Preparing, Training and Recruiting High-Quality Teachers and Principals; and Title V, Part A Innovative Programs.
