The Grade-Level Expectations Educational Model (GLEEM), a Louisiana Department of Education pilot initiative, is a statewide professional development designed to:

  • • Provide participants with a deeper understanding of the GLEs and the state comprehensive curriculum;
  • • Enable participants to increase his/her understanding of effective instructional and assessment practices as they relate to the comprehensive curriculum; and
  • • Broaden teachers' knowledge of standards, benchmarks, GLEs, and instructional technology through applications in the development of standards-based lessons and assessments.

The GLEEM professional development consists of five (5) learning modules that may be taken as a series or standalone. To download a copy of the GLEEM flyers, click here. The GLEEM will be offered in both face-to-face and online formats. The GLEEM online model format represents a leadership opportunity for both instructors and students. The GLEEM online will allow participants to explore the potential of online learning communities as they relate to student learning and professional development through collaborative learning experiences.

Technical skills and classroom experience are required for successful participation as an online instructor or as a student. Participants should have the usual characteristics of a successful online learner:

  • the motivation and ability to learn independently;
  • the drive to persevere when there is no one to provide face-to-face encouragement; and
  • the willingness to make time to be online early and often.

Students should have strong computer skills or be willing to gain them on their own. They will be expected to use Word, PowerPoint, etc.; use basic copy and paste routines to enter work into electronic discussions; use e-mail and file attachments; and to locate websites on the Internet.
