Kindergarten to Third Grade Daily Activity Calendars 2004-05

Activities in the 2004-05 kindergarten through third grade activity calendars are to be used at home for educational enrichment and to promote parental involvement in education.

Because of space, these calendars exclude weekend days. However, activities can be shared with children on any day of the week or month throughout the school year.

The activities have been developed using some of Louisiana's Grade-Level Expectations or GLEs. GLEs identify what students should know an be able to do by the end of each grade (PreK to 12) in the areas of English Language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. For more information on GLEs, contact your child's teacher or call the Louisiana Department of Education at 1-877-453-2721.

Each grade level calendar may be viewed, downloaded and/or printed out by clicking on the appropriate link below.

Father Involvement in Education

While mothers have traditionally been the primary connection between home and school, increasing attention has been focused on the importance fathers play in their childen's education. Listed below are links to sites exploring the importance and necessity of fathers' involvement in children's education. Families will find helpful strategies and suggestions for increasing the role(s) fathers play in the overall educational process of children.

Fatherhood Initiative
The Department of Health and Human Services has developed a special initiative to support and strengthen the role of fathers in families. This initiative is guided by the following principles:

1. All fathers can be important contributors to the well-being of their children.
2. Parents are partners in raising their children, even when they do not live in the same household.
3. The roles fathers play in families are diverse and related to cultural and community norms.
4. Men should receive education and support necessary to prepare them for the responsibility of fatherhood.
5. Government can encourage and promote father involvement through its programs and through its own workforce policies.
