Division of Special Populations
Mission Statement
The mission of the Division of Special Populations is to ensure that every child in every school has access to instruction delivered by well-trained teachers who are accountable for the academic success of every child. Proposed Revisions to Bulletin 1706, Regulations for Implementation of the Children with Exceptionalities Act (La. R.S. 17:1941, et seq.) The Department of Education, Division of Educational Improvement and Assistance (DEIA) is proposing revisions to Bulletin 1706, Subpart A, to comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part B. Through this medium and public hearings, the DEIA is soliciting comments from interested individuals. All interested persons wishing to review the document and/or make comments may do so by linking to the March edition of the Louisiana Register at http://doa.louisiana.gov/osr/reg/regs2008.htm Public hearings will be conducted as noted below. The anticipated date for approval of Bulletin 1706 is June, 2009, at the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (SBESE) meeting with final adoption date in July, 2009.
