LaSIG 2 – Creating the Freedom to Learn Well

[LaSIG2 logo] The Louisiana Department of Education's Division of Educational Improvement and Assistance received funding for a five-year State Personnel Development Grant from the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.

This grant is an extension and expansion of the previously funded Louisiana State Improvement Grant (LaSIG), which had many successes in participating districts and schools over the five-year period of the project. LaSIG 2 plans to build upon the success of increased and improved systemic change, school and district improvement, and family engagement evidenced during the first project.

The focus of LaSIG 2 is to support improvement efforts at the district level and in some cases at the school level. Also, LaSIG 2 will expand authentic family engagement and partnerships, and improve access to professional development for all stakeholders (educators, students, families and community members).

LaSIG 2 will continue to work closely with Families Helping Families regional resource centers and the Pyramid Community Parent Resource Center located in New Orleans. In addition, LaSIG 2 will work closely with People First of Louisiana.

LaSIG 2 has four goals that focus the project’s professional development on achieving outcomes at the state, district, campus and individual levels:
  • Improve systems of professional development and service delivery at the state level
  • Improve systems of professional development, service delivery, and student outcomes at the district level
  • Improve systems of professional development, service delivery, and student outcomes at the campus level
  • Improve systems of professional development, service delivery, and student outcomes at the individual level
During the first year of the project the following school districts will participate:
 Assumption
Caddo
Calcasieu
Catahoula
DeSoto
East Baton Rouge
East Carroll
Jefferson
Livingston
Plaquemines
Rapides
Recovery School District
St. Charles
Vermilion
Additional districts will be added during the five years of the project.
