Participation of Publishing Companies

The Louisiana Department of Education seeks to provide Louisiana’s students with high-quality, standards-based educational materials and encourages publishing companies to participate in our adoption process.

All publishing companies are invited to participate. Because of the increasing rate of publishing company mergers and moves and publisher representative turnovers, it is the responsibility of the publishing company and its representatives to update their email address with our office in order to inform you of upcoming textbook adoptions. We will also regularly update this website and post adoption invitations here. Publishers will need to visit the site frequently to learn about upcoming adoptions.

Public Display of Materials Submitted for Review

State policy provides the opportunity for interested persons who are legal residents of Louisiana to inspect and review the books offered for adoption at designated public review sites. Samples of student basals submitted for review are scheduled to be on display for 90 days from June 15, 2008 through September 15, 2008 at participating public display sites statewide. Four copies of each textbook under review will be provided at each location, three of which shall be available to check out. As soon as locations are finalized, they will be posted here.

The Department of Education State Textbooks Office will receive public comment forms through September 15, 2008. The Public Comment Form will be posted here prior to June 15, 2008.

2008-2009 English Language Arts Adoption

On January 22, 2008, an email invitation was sent to all publishing companies and representatives who have listed a valid email address with our office. Only publishing companies who returned the Intent to Participate Form with the Participation Fee and attended the mandatory Publishers’ Orientation are eligible to participate. All official forms and correlation documents will be emailed to participating publishers.

Participating publishers shall correlate their core basal materials to Louisiana’s Grade-Level Expectations for English Language Arts. (See link below.)

Categories for adoption are:
• Grammar / Writing & Composition
• Spelling
• Journalism I and II (no correlation is required)

Note that Louisiana does not adopt supplemental materials apart from a core basal program. If a publisher has a core basal submitted, ancillary materials may be submitted. There are no plans for separate supplemental calls.
