The following schools in Orleans Parish were in School Improvement in 2004-2005 and have been taken over by the state as of July 1, 2005. Four different charter school operators will operate these schools as Type 5 Charter Schools in the state’s Recovery School District. These state takeovers occurred as the result of a constitutional amendment overwhelmingly approved by the Legislature in spring 2002 and on the ballot in fall 2003. Under this amendment, chronically failed schools can be subject to management by BESE if they remain academically unacceptable for four or more years.
