6+1 Trait Writing Model of Instruction & Assessment
This six-hour workshop for 6+1 Trait® Writing Model gives teachers a powerful framework to formatively evaluate student writing through an analytical approach focused on the six sub-skill traits that characterize quality writing. Developed at the Northwest Regional Education Lab (NWREL) by educators seeking a better system for evaluating students’ written work, 6+1 Traits® provides a strong, effective model to address the high stakes state testing rubric, as well as provide feedback that will improve all students’ writing. The model is accepted as part of the Ensuring Literacy state initiative.

Backward Design (Understanding by Design (UbD)
Defined by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, Understanding by Design(UbD), informally called Backward Design, is a "framework for designing curriculum units, performance assessments, and classroom instruction that leads students to deep understanding of the content taught.” UbD’s foundation is that, if students are to be successful on any assessment that may encounter, curriculum planning must begin with the end in mind, e.g., iLEAP, LEAP, and/or GEE. Therefore, this training focuses on lesson design that addresses teaching for understanding of the big ideas and aligning assessments of these ideas with the format of the High Stakes testing instrument.

The Accountability/Louisiana Needs Assessment module is a pre-requisite to attending this professional development offering.
|
Degree of Implementation Guide (DIG)
The writing of the School Improvement Plan is just the beginning step in impacting student achievement in a given school. The second step is the quality implementation of the plan. The DIG is a process designed to systematically collect and analyze evidence to measure the level and quality of implementation of pre-determined indicators for each strategy in the School Improvement Plan. The Accountability/LANA and SIP modules are prerequisites to attending this professional development offering.

Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS)
DIBELS testing is used to measure critical skills that underline early reading success. The seven, one-minute assessments predict how well children are likely to be doing in reading comprehension by the end of third grade. The results of grade-level indicators are used as a screening instrument to determine needed intervention. The three-step training process involves Administration and Scoring, Mentoring Scoring, and Intervention.
