Effective Instructional Technology: An Introduction

This course is designed to help Louisiana teachers understand and apply the benefits instructional technology in their classrooms as well as meet ISTE NETS standards. The course consists of learning experiences that focus on online collaboration with learning buddies, jigsaw activities, and peer write-review-edit cycles. Learning experiences include reflective readings, research-based strategies, and curriculum resources. This course is a prerequisite to Effective Instructional Technology: Building a Portfolio of Exemplars

Effective Instructional Technology: Building a Portfolio of Exemplars

This EIT course is designed to guide teachers through the process of creating a portfolio of teacher- and student-created artifacts to demonstrate progress toward meeting the NETS-T standards. Building on the first course, this course consists of learning experiences that focus on the development of a Personal Professional Development Plan, a Classroom Technology Plan, and a Unit Plan with video and student samples.

The EIT Series is designed to help Louisiana teachers understand and apply the benefits of instructional technology in their classrooms, while meeting national and state technology mandates. There are two courses included in the series: Effective Instructional Technology: An Introduction and Effective Instructional Technology: Building a Portfolio of Exemplars.

Grade-Level Expectations Education Model

The Grade-Level Expectations Educational Model Delivery Format: Online
Length: 2 weeks for each learning module
CLUs: 8

The Grade-Level Expectations Education Model (GLEEM) consists of 5 learning modules. The modules may be taken as a series or standalone. However, successful completion of module 1 is a prerequisite to enrolling in modules 2-5. All online modules are 2-weeks in length. Each module consists of learning experiences that focus on a discrete topic (or series of topics) that prepares educators to improve curriculum, instruction, and student achievement. Learning experiences include reflective readings, research-based strategies, curriculum resources, and enrichment activities.

LaTEL

LaTEL is Louisiana’s customized implementation of the Intel® Teach Program. The training includes a 1 ˝ day face-to-face plus 5-weeks online course that is designed to help teachers deliver more engaging, personal, and dynamic activities to students by connecting with the LA Comprehensive Curriculum with activities that focus on 21st Century Skills. Teachers learn to use the following Intel® Online Tools:

Topics for Algebra Leaders and Instructors (TALI)

The eight-week summer online course is designed to provide teachers with effective instructional strategies for implementing the Grade-Level Expectations (GLEs) when teaching Algebra I, awareness of Algebra I topics and issues, opportunities to explore ways instructional technology can be used to support student achievement, and instructional learning activities that will give teachers a better understanding of the content and methods of the Algebra I class. The course targets middle and high school teachers who want to improve their content understanding of the three math strands: (1) algebra, (2) patterns, relations, and functions, and (3) data analysis. Successful completion of this course should give teachers some background for the PRAXIS Middle School Mathematics Test in their efforts to meet the NCLB and state requirements of Highly Qualified status.

A participant in this course will have access to online and offline Algebra resources that will enable an increase in his or her understanding of the mathematics content needed to teach Algebra I. Upon successful completion of the TALI course, participants can earn three hours of mathematics graduate credit or forty-five CLUs.

Bridging the Gap

Algebra I Online Professional Development Modules

The Algebra I Online Professional Development Modules are part of a coordinated set of learning experiences – both face-to-face and online – for teachers of algebra that will provide the vehicle for mathematics teachers to comprehensively evaluate and improve their mathematics content knowledge, skill’s sets, and instructional practices. The Algebra I Online Professional Development Modules will be specifically designed to assist teachers with preparing students for success on the Algebra I End-of-Course Exam.

Each module will be offered online, through the BlackBoard Learning System, and will last approximately 4-5 weeks in length. Topics covered include:

Louisiana Information Literacy Initiative (LILI)

LILI Delivery Format: Face-to-Face
Length: 3 1/2 days
CLUs: 28

This project is designed to assist librarians in transforming a school library to meet the needs of the students of the 21st Century. With the large amount of information now available on the Internet, it is important that librarians involve themselves in helping students become information literate. Issues pertinent to this goal will be explored in this training. The Louisiana Information Literacy Model for Lifelong Learning, which can be found in the Guidelines for Library Media Programs In Louisiana Schools and all the state curriculum guides, will be the one of the starting points for our exploration of the research skills.

Louisiana INTECH

Louisiana INTECH Delivery Format: Face-to-Face
Length: 6 days

Louisiana INTECH is an intense, content-rich, hands-on, and technology base staff development program. Louisiana INTECH, an adaptation of the Georgia InTECH model, provides teachers with many examples of effective technology-based strategies that support and enhance curriculum and can serve as a catalyst for fundamental change in overall teaching and learning processes. INTECH teams of teachers learn basic technology skills while focusing on project-based activities that are based upon the Louisiana Content Standards. Five critical areas characterize this integrated training approach: (1) classroom management techniques, (2) new designs for learning, (3) best pedagogical practices, (4) curriculum standards, and (5) modern technology skills.

INTECH 2 Science

INTECH2Science Delivery Format: Face-to-Face
Length: 3 1/2 days

INTECH 2 is a content-specific professional development program. Participants attend in teams of 3-4 educators, but can range in grade level and science specialty area. INTECH 2 Science, a three and one-half day experience, is focused on inquiry-based explorations in a student-centered environment and how technology can support this type of learning. Participants can expect to come away with (1) an understanding of the process of designing an inquiry lesson, (2) a model of how to implement inquiry-based learning in their classroom, (3) a simple way to take a learning experience through to publication on the web, and (4) an understanding of how one science concept spirals up in the K-12 curriculum. The training is based on the five critical components of Louisiana INTECH; therefore only individuals who have successfully completed a Louisiana INTECH course will be eligible to apply.

INTECH 2 Social Studies

INTECH 2 Social Studies will introduce K-12 students and teachers to the world of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and will involve them in an authentic and powerful application of the GIS technology. Participants attend in teams of 3-6 educators, but can range in grade level and social studies specialty area. INTECH 2 Social Studies, a three and one-half day experience, is focused on GIS technology in a student-centered environment and how technology can support this type of learning. The training is based on the five critical components of Louisiana INTECH; therefore, only individuals who have successfully completed a Louisiana INTECH course will be eligible to apply.

Proficiency Express

proficiency express Delivery Format: Online

Proficiency Express, an interactive, technology rich, online professional development initiative, is designed to provide participants with basic technology proficiency skills as they apply them in the development of instructional classroom resources. Proficiency Express participants will be introduced to a variety of software applications and technology tools that can be utilized in the classroom.

Evaluating Technology Trainings

There are two training evaluations which can be used by participants:

1. The Traning Registration and Evaluation System (TRES) is used by Regional Teaching, Learning and Technology Centers (TLTCs), school districts and schools. TRES was created to assist school systems with the evaluation process by providing them a uniform method for evaluating trainings in their district. All of the data collected through this system can be used by the district to analyze the effectiveness of their programs as well as assist them in planning for future trainings.

2. The CourseWhere registration system contains an evaluation system that is used throughout the Louisiana Department of Education for professional development opportunities.
