Classified Positions

All competitive classified vacant positions in the State of Louisiana Department of Education, including Special School District #1 and #2, are posted on the Louisiana Department of State Civil Service website.

Louisiana Department of State Civil Service website

To apply for any of the positions listed that site you must complete a Civil Service Pre-Employment Application (SF-10), providing as much detail as possible when completing the application. Interested individuals are encouraged to check the Civil Service website on a regular basis, as jobs may be posted daily and are only open to application for a limited time period, usually two weeks. Application instructions and contact information is included with each job posting. Follow the directions in the job posting to apply. The announcement number, position number and job title must be included on each application submitted, and a separate application must be submitted for each position applied for.

Most of the Department of Education’s education series jobs are considered "shortage” jobs and do not require a Civil Service score to apply. However, most administrative and support positions require a Civil Service score before applying, unless the job posting says that no score is needed for the job. An applicant who already has a score for a job must still apply to the agency job posting in order to be considered.

To make yourself eligible for jobs that require a score you must submit a Civil Service Pre-employment Application (Form SF10) to Civil Service. The SF10 can be downloaded from the Civil Service website. Depending on the position you are applying for you may be given an "experience and training” rating or be scheduled to take a written exam.

Additional information regarding the application process can be found on the Civil Service website, under "Employment Information”. Specific questions regarding positions in the Department of Education can be directed to the Department of Education Human Resources Office, at (225) 342-3774.
