Standing Committees
The Board operates through a system of standing committees, each of which considers issues related to a special subject matter. An item is placed on the appropriate agenda for standing committees, executive committees, and advisory councils by action of the full Board. The committees and their charges are as follows:

Student/School Performance and Support
The Students/School Performance and Support Committee will address assessment issues (LEAP, GEE, iLEAP, Remediation); accountability issues (school performance, interventions, improvements); academically at-risk schools; school choice; vouchers; supplemental education services; district dialogues; curriculum (content standards, GLEs, comprehensive curriculum, textbooks, elective courses); alternative schools/programs; special education; early childhood; school and community support; adult education issues; commission(s)/task forces; and bulletin(s).

State-Authorized School Oversight
The State Authorized School Oversight Committee will address RSD; school takeover; SSD/BSS issues; school approval (Brumfield-Dodd, Nonpublic); commission(s)/task forces; bulletin(s)/administrative handbooks; and charter schools.

Finance
The Finance Committee will address contracts and leases; grants and allocations; audit reports; MFP; financially at-risk schools; budgets (BESE, LDE, BSS, SSD, RSD, charters, sub-grantees); commission(s)/task forces; and bulletin(s)/administrative handbooks.

Quality Leaders/Educators
The Quality Leaders/Educators Committee will address leadership development; professional development; professional accountability; certification/articulation; approval of teacher education programs and units; appeals; commission(s)/task forces; and bulletin(s).

High School Redesign
The High School Redesign Committee will address dual enrollment/articulation; redesign innovations; diploma options; Louisiana Virtual School updates; career and technical education; dropout prevention; curriculum enhancements (International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, project-based learning, Industry-Based Certificates); commission(s)/task forces; and bulletin(s).

Literacy and Numeracy
The Literacy and Numeracy Committee will address literacy; numeracy, commission(s)/task forces; and bulletin(s).

Executive Committees
The Board has established three Executive Committees which will meet as required by the Board. The Executive Committees will be chaired by one of the BESE officers.

Board Administration/Relations
The Board Administration/Relations Committee will address advisory council matters; travel (BESE, LDE); education/management issues (operations, reorganization, personnel); strategic planning; retreat planning; study group topics; evaluation of state superintendent; evaluation of BESE Executive Director and unclassified staff; public awareness campaigns, communications; creation of advisory councils and commissions; committee restructuring; 8(g); and bulletin(s).

Legal/Due Process
