Accountability/Louisiana Needs Assessment (LANA) Module

Louisiana’s School and District Accountability System is intended to drive fundamental change in classroom teaching by helping schools and communities focus on improved student achievement. The system is designed to encourage and support the School Improvement process. Participants will receive a general overview of the Accountability System, followed by professional development on the first piece of the School Improvement process, the needs assessment. Working from student assessment results, districts and schools will use the LANA to collect and analyze pertinent data for use in the School Improvement planning process.

School Improvement Planning Module

Participants are led through the process of writing a School Improvement Plan as outlined in the Louisiana Department of Education’s "Tools for Success” and "School Improvement Plan Template.” Emphasis is placed on planning as a process and quality implementation/evaluation for success. Participation in the Louisiana Needs Assessment Module (LANA) is a prerequisite for attending the School Improvement Planning Module. The Accountability/Louisiana Needs Assessment module is a prerequisite for attending this professional development offering.

Degree of Implementation Guide (DIG)

The writing of the School Improvement Plan is just the beginning step in impacting student achievement in a given school. The second step is the quality implementation of the plan. The DIG is a process designed to systematically collect and analyze evidence to measure the level and quality of implementation of pre-determined indicators for each strategy in the School Improvement Plan. The Accountability/LANA and SIP modules are prerequisites for attending this professional development offering.

District Accountability Personnel Training

Louisiana’s School and District Accountability System is intended to drive fundamental change in classroom teaching by helping schools and communities focus on improved student achievement. District personnel who work with School Accountability are responsible for conveying Accountability policies to school personnel in their district. This training is computer-based and designed to give the Accountability personnel in the districts a full and detailed explanation of the Accountability System, including terminology, policies, and calculations of scores. This training is only recommended for district-level personnel that are new to accountability and responsible for accountability issues in the district.

Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS)

DIBELS testing is used to measure critical skills that underline early reading success. The seven, one-minute assessments predict how well children are likely to be doing in reading comprehension by the end of third grade. The results of grade-level indicators are used as a screening instrument to determine needed intervention. The three-step training process involves Administration and Scoring, Mentoring Scoring and Intervention.

6 +1 Trait Writing

The 6+1 Trait Writing framework is a powerful way to learn and use a common language to refer to characteristics of writing as well as create a common vision of what 'good' writing looks like. Teachers and students can use the 6+1 Trait model to pinpoint areas of strength and weakness as they continue to focus on improved writing.
